The Indiana Fever couldn't pull off a win Saturday, but they got to celebrate nonetheless as star Caitlin Clark made history. In her first WNBA game since July 2025, the 24-year-old guard became the quickest player in league history to reach at least 1,000 points, 250 rebounds, and 250 assists—hitting the mark in 54 games to edge past Diana Taurasi's previous benchmark of 62, per USA Today. Though she missed a three-pointer in the dying seconds, Clark put up 20 points, seven assists, and five rebounds in the 107-104 season-opening defeat to the Dallas Wings, the first WNBA opener in which both teams topped 100 points.
Clark, who was limited to 13 games last season due to injuries, said before tipoff that suiting up again made her "a little emotional." Though she had her back adjusted twice during the game, she finished with a team-high 31 minutes, per the New York Post. She said she felt "great." The 2024 No. 1 pick and Rookie of the Year already owns multiple marks, including the WNBA's single-game assist record (19). Her latest feat drew a social media salute from LeBron James and a celebration at a Morgan Wallen concert in Indianapolis later Saturday. Angel Reese, now with the Atlanta Dream, also made WNBA history Saturday, becoming the fastest player to reach 50 career double-doubles, per Athlon Sports. She did it in 65 games, beating Tina Charles' previous record of 75 games.
