Quake hits in Pacific Ocean, off the coast of Ferndale

A magnitude 6.5 earthquake hit Northern California on Thursday morning. The quake, which was initially reported at 6.8, hit about 100 miles west of Ferndale at 6:50am local time, per USGS, meaning it was centered in the Pacific Ocean at a depth of 6.2 miles. (Ferndale is about 20 miles south of Eureka and 260 miles north of San Francisco.) There are no reports yet of injuries or damage. The National Tsunami Center is not reporting any danger of tsunamis at this point, CBS San Francisco reports.
