World | Rachel Corrie Israel Deports Rachel Corrie Activists Gaza protesters quietly sent packing By Polly Davis Doig Posted Jun 6, 2010 8:32 AM CDT Copied The 1,200-ton aid ship 'Rachel Corrie' approaches the port of Ashdod, Israel, Saturday, June 5, 2010. (AP Photo/Tsafrir Abayov) Israel has deported six of the 19 activists who tried to breach its naval blockade of Gaza, and plans to fly the rest out today, reports the BBC. Israel's quiet handling of the activists aboard the Rachel Corrie stands in marked contrast to its earlier shootout with a Turkish-based aid ship, which PM Benjamin Netanyahu has derided as a "ship of hate organized by violent Turkish terror extremists." In comparison, Netanyahu praised those aboard the Rachel Corrie are "peace activists." Israel has said it will review the contents of the 1200-ton aid ship, and deliver that which it deems acceptable to the Gaza Strip.
