Transport Chief: Stop Driving Recalled Toyotas

Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood today advised owners of recalled Toyota vehicles to stop driving them immediately and seek a repair for the sticking accelerator problems that have forced the record-breaking recall. Earlier, LaHood said he plans to speak with Toyota President Akio Toyoda about the automaker's spate of recalls in the United States. LaHood confirms that the government is also investigating potential electrical problems in Toyota vehicles, the AP reports.

The secretary says the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration will conduct an investigation into electronic throttle control systems in Toyotas as well as other brands, and potential electromagnetic interference in the nation's fleet of vehicles. Toyota has attributed incidents of unintended acceleration to flawed floor mats and sticky gas pedals, which have prompted recalls involving millions of vehicles.
