Rudy Giuliani will run for US Senate next year as a possible steppingstone to a presidential bid in 2012, sources tell the New York Daily News. Giuliani plans to challenge Kirsten Gillibrand for the remaining two years of Hillary Clinton’s term. He had been expected to run for governor in 2010 but has decided against it, perhaps because of the surging popularity of Attorney General Andrew Cuomo. Cuomo has not announced his candidacy but is widely expected to challenge incumbent David Paterson for the Democratic nomination.
