Politics | Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg Latest on Why Caroline's Out: Nanny, Taxes, Husband The leaks continue o By John Johnson Posted Jan 22, 2009 4:22 PM CST Copied In this Aug. 25, 2008, file photo, Caroline Kennedy introduces her uncle, Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, D-Mass., before his speech at the Democratic National Convention in Denver. (AP Photo) So what’s the real reason behind Caroline Kennedy’s withdrawal? Depends on whom you ask. An aide to New York Gov. David Paterson says she had a tax problem and a possible nanny issue that emerged in vetting, the Times reports. But a Kennedy pal says she dropped because her husband “is controlling” and thought she’d wreck their marriage by moving to DC, the Daily News adds. The New York Post also cites her marriage, with an anonymous source close to the governor asserting, without elaboration, that “reporters are starting to look at her marriage more closely”—though Kennedy denied rumors of trouble with Edward Schlossberg. After all this, would she have gotten the post had she not bowed out? It was hers for the taking, say sources close to Kennedy. Not a chance, say Paterson sources.
