Deal May Be Close to End Iran War

Sunday might be a pivotal day in the Iran war. President Trump said on Truth Social Saturday that a peace deal has been "largely negotiated," with details to be released shortly, reports the Washington Post. However, much remains unclear about what the two sides have agreed upon. On Sunday, for example, a semi-official news agency in Iran said Tehran has not committed to hand over any of its nuclear material, despite reports to the contrary, reports the BBC. Instead, Iran appears to have agreed to postpone talks on the issue until after the war ends.

One reason for all the confusion: Many of the reports surfacing about the potential agreement "are based on reports from American and Middle Eastern sources, not all of whom seem to have the same understanding of what is in the memorandum, or even whether the details have been locked down," writes David Sanger in the New York Times. Still, most outlets agree that mediators have worked out some kind of memorandum to end the fighting and reopen the Strait of Hormuz without restrictions. Trump, meanwhile, told Axios that he was a "solid 50-50" on whether he would sign off on the deal or else "blow them to kingdom come," adding that he would likely decide on Sunday. Trump spoke with Mideast leaders on Saturday and had a separate call with Israel's Benjamin Netanyahu.
