President Trump says Iran has roughly a week and a half to decide whether it wants a nuclear deal—or a military strike. Speaking at the first meeting of his new Board of Peace in Washington on Thursday, Trump said the world would see "over the next, probably, 10 days" if talks over Tehran's nuclear program produce an agreement, or if the US "may have to take it a step further," reports the BBC. The comments come as the US moves more forces into the region, including the USS Abraham Lincoln carrier.
Trump also said he has been briefed on the nuclear talks underway in Geneva, which he said are going well. But, he added, they must result in "a meaningful deal, otherwise bad things will happen." Axios quotes US and Israeli officials as warning that the US is poised to begin a "massive, weeks-long" military campaign on short notice. On Capitol Hill, meanwhile, a bipartisan pair—Reps. Ro Khanna and Thomas Massie—plans to push a War Powers vote seeking to limit any strike without congressional approval. However, odds of passage look slim after a similar effort failed in the Senate earlier this year.
