Prince William's latest paycheck as heir to the throne comes with a very specific figure attached: about $30 million for a single year. The Duchy of Cornwall's "Integrated Impact Report" for 2025 shows a distributable surplus of about $30.9 million for the 2024–25 financial year, the second full year William has controlled the estate since King Charles became monarch in 2022, per People. That surplus funds the official, charitable, and private costs of the prince and princess of Wales and their three children. William is said to pay income tax on the full amount he receives after deducting unspecified household expenses.
The Duchy, created in 1337 to bankroll the heir apparent, is a sprawling operation: more than 130,000 acres of land across 23 counties in England and Wales, including farms, homes, and other assets worth more than $1 billion. William has made a point of being visibly involved in the estate, with several visits over the past few years, including a trip to Newquay to see a Duchy-backed housing project intended to address homelessness.
The report also underscores how William's public role is evolving. In his first full year as prince of Wales, he shifted from president to patron of England's Football Association, taking on the patronage previously held by late grandmother Queen Elizabeth II. He also added roles with the Welsh Guards Charity, the Royal Cornwall Agricultural Association, and the Victoria Cross and George Cross Association, while the Duchy itself is working toward a stated goal: becoming a net-zero estate by the end of 2032. Cosmopolitan notes that once William assumes the throne, his eldest son, George, will take over the Duchy of Cornwall.
