It's a seller's market, even for one of the most well-known residences in silver screen history. The five-bedroom, six-bath red-brick Georgian-style home in Winnetka, Illinois, where 1990's Home Alone was filmed was originally for sale with an asking price of $5.25 million, but CNBC reports that, just a week after going on the market, the 1921 house was scooped up for $5.5 million. "It's one of the most Googled houses in the world, and it's in one of the most iconic movies, but when you're in the home, it really feels like a family and friends gathering place," says Dawn McKenna, the sellers' agent. Quartz has a slideshow of the home's interior, if you missed your chance to put in a bid.

Presumably Macaulay Culkin won't get left behind this time, but the house where his 1990 breakthrough film Home Alone was filmed is now on the market for the first time in a dozen years, reports CNN. Located in the Chicago suburb of Winnetka, Illinois, the house was the turf that 8-year-old Kevin McCallister defended against two less-than-brilliant would-be burglars when his family accidentally left him home while they went to Paris for Christmas. - The asking price: $5.25 million will get you what the real estate agent calls "a piece of cinematic history," and "one of the most iconic movie residences in American pop culture."
