Politics / Mary Trump Details Emerging From Book by Trump's Niece And they are not flattering By Newser Editors, Newser Staff Posted Jul 7, 2020 12:18 PM CDT Copied This combination photo shows the cover art for "Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World’s Most Dangerous Man", left, and a portrait of author Mary L. Trump, Ph.D. (Simon & Schuster, left, and Peter Serling/Simon & Schuster via AP) The Trump tell-all by the president's niece comes out July 14, but outlets including the Washington Post, CNN, and the New York Times already have gotten a look. Some highlights: SAT: In Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World's Most Dangerous Man, Mary Trump writes that her uncle paid someone to take the SAT for him, and the high score smoothed his entrance to the prestigious Wharton business school. It's been a frequent bragging point over the years. Sister: She quotes the president's sister, Maryanne Trump, as being amazed at her brother's popularity with Evangelicals during the 2016 campaign. “The only time Donald went to church was when the cameras were there,” Maryanne is quoted as saying. “It’s mind boggling. But that’s all about his base. He has no principles. None!” A diagnosis: Mary Trump is a clinical psychologist, and she says her uncle meets all nine criteria to be a narcissist. Father: She paints a damning portrait of the family patriarch, Fred Trump, saying he was a "sociopath" who warped his son Donald. “By limiting Donald’s access to his own feelings and rendering many of them unacceptable, Fred perverted his son’s perception of the world and damaged his ability to live in it.” A quote: "Donald, following the lead of my grandfather and with the complicity, silence and inaction of his siblings, destroyed my father," wrote Mary Trump, referring to Fred Jr., an alcoholic who died at 42. "I can't let him destroy my country." (The president has expressed regret at how he treated his late brother.) 'Worst night': When Trump won the presidency, Mary Trump tweeted, "Worst night of my life" at least a dozen times, though the tweets were deleted recently. "I grieve for our country."
