Leafs blow past Islanders, Flyers take down Thrashers

Sean Avery scored twice for the New York Rangers in their 5-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins. The win puts New York back on track after a two-game skid broke their 13-game point streak. Sidney Crosby missed his third straight game with teh Pens to nurse his high ankle sprain, and the reigning MVP is expected to miss at least one more, reports the Associated Press. The Maple Leafs bested the Islanders 3-1 to keep their playoff hopes alive. Toronto trails Philadelphia by six points for the eighth and final playoff spot.

The Flyers tightened their grip on the final playoff slot in the Eastern Conference with a 3-2 win over the Thrashers. It was Philadelphia’s 10th straight win over Atlanta.
