Man Who Beheaded Boss Kills Himself in Prison

A Frenchman charged with beheading his boss and attaching the severed head to a fence in June has been found dead in a surprise end to the case of the man with reported ties to radical Islam who allegedly tried and failed to blow up a gas plant. Prison officials discovered the body of suspect Yassin Salhi, 35, in his jail cell Tuesday night, AFP reports.

Authorities at the Fleury-Merogis facility say Salhi hanged himself from the bars of his cell using his bedsheets, with both AFP and the BBC noting that even though Salhi was in solitary as he awaited his trial, he hadn't been deemed a suicide risk. Although Salhi maintained the June attack was motivated by a personal vendetta, prosecutors had been working to prove he was linked to radical Islamic groups.
