Bad Advice for Women: Apologies of the Week

A misguided attempt at inspiration and a live mic led to two of the week's public apologies:

• Corporate misfire: "We’re incredibly sorry for offending everybody—that was never our intention, but we completely understand where we’ve gone wrong."—Bic, after an attempt to inspire women came off as more than a wee bit sexist.
• Unsportsmanlike: "I would like to take this opportunity to apologise for the comments I made during the match last night ... My comments were made in the heat of the moment and were unacceptable on many levels."—Nick Kyrgios, pro tennis player, after a courtside mic picked up his nasty insult about his opponent's girlfriend.

• Misguided liaison: "I am sincerely sorry that I have disappointed so many by my actions."—Cindy Gamrat, Michigan state lawmaker, after her affair with a fellow lawmaker became public amid her lover's utterly crazy scheme to make things right. Both have preached morality.
• Hug it out: "I’ve probably said ‘hug’ a million times on the air. I look at the picture, that’s no hug. I’ve got to say—I’m sorry about the hug."—Greta Van Susteren of Fox News, apologizing to Chris Christie for her description of his greeting of President Obama in 2012 after Hurricane Sandy. (Rand Paul mentioned the "hug" during the GOP debate.)
• Hard to believe: "We sincerely apologize we have offended anyone w/name of our popular aug pizza.Certainly not our intent! name has been changed"—Pizza by Certé of New York City, whose slice of the month was called "pic-a-nika" and featured fried chicken and watermelon.
