Just another Saturday night in Quebec: A trio of inmates managed to break out of their jail in Quebec City, using a green helicopter to make their getaway and fly off into the west. Adding insult to any successful jailbreak is the fact that it's not exactly an original idea, reports the Globe and Mail. Two inmates made a similar "James Bond" jailbreak last year from another jail in Quebec; freedom for them, however, was fleeting as they were recaptured in a matter of hours.
Still missing in yesterday's incident are Yves Denis, 35, Denis Lefebvre, 53, and Serge Pomerleau, 49. Police aren't saying much publicly for fear of tipping off the escapees. "We (are working with) a few partners like the airports of Quebec City and surrounding areas, the military bases and, of course, there’s a ground search in the event that the helicopter is located," says a police spokeswoman. The move was also tried successfully (at least briefly) in Russia two years ago. (More Quebec stories.)
