The Oilers' 5-0 trouncing of the Flames last night was anything but pretty, writes the Edmonton Journal. Four fights and 22 penalties dominated a game that should perhaps have been remembered as Mathieu Garon's fourth shutout of the season, or as the decidedly inauspicious return of veteran goaltender Curtis Joseph.

The game's final fight disintegrated into a mob scene after Garon objected to Eric Godard's punching Edmonton's Tom Gilbert. When the ice was cleared, Godard was on his way out with three separate penalties, leaving the last seven minutes of the game as an Oilers power play. "I just wish we could play Calgary every game," said Gilbert. (More NHL stories.)
