Aide on Bush's Health: 'Put Harps Back in Closet'

George HW Bush may still be in intensive care in a Houston hospital, but he would have a message for all those who fear he is near death—"put the harps back in the closet," an aide tells the AP. Jean Becker, the former president's longtime chief of staff, said in a statement yesterday that "most of the civilized world" has been in touch with her concerning Bush since Wednesday, and that he is receiving excellent care.

The Bushes have been quiet about the former president's condition because they are a private family and "because he is so beloved we knew everyone would overreact," said Becker. She also said that the outpouring of prayers and support were all much appreciated. "I am thinking heaven has not seen such a barrage of prayer intentions since It's a Wonderful Life," she said.
