George Zimmerman surfaced in public today for the first time since Trayvon Martin's shooting. He appeared briefly in a Florida courtroom, and about the only news that came of it was the scheduling of May 29 for his arraignment on murder charges. Zimmerman did not enter a plea, nor did attorney Mark O'Mara make a request for bail. Zimmerman said only "Yes, sir" in response to the judge, reports the AP.
In another development, Trayvon's mother clarified a statement she made on the Today show in which she referred to the shooting as an "accident," reports the Orlando Sentinel. "In NO way did I mean the shooting was an accident," Sybrina Fulton said in a statement. "We believe that George Zimmerman stalked my son and murdered him in cold blood. The 'accident' I was referring to was the fact that George Zimmerman and my son ever crossed paths. It was an accidental encounter. If George Zimmerman hadn't gotten out of his vehicle, this entire incident would have been avoided." (More George Zimmerman stories.)
