Israel Threatens New Gaza Offensive Over Rockets

Israel has threatened to launch a new ground attack against the Gaza Strip after a barrage of light fire hit southern Israel. Fifteen rockets and mortars were fired from Gaza yesterday and Monday, lightly injuring one Israeli teenager. Though Hamas was apparently not behind the rocket fire, Israel is holding the militant organization responsible and targeting its positions, the Christian Science Monitor reports.

Israeli Deputy Prime Minister Dan Meridor told Israeli Army Radio today that if the rockets continued, Israel would launch a ground operation to stop them. But Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas warned that such an attack would “put the entire peace process in real danger,” according to the Jerusalem Post. Hamas, meanwhile, said it would file a UN complaint against the “Zionist aggression.”
