Nigeria to Charge Dick Cheney With Bribery

Nigeria plans to charge Dick Cheney in a bribery scandal going back to his days as CEO of Halliburton, BusinessWeek reports. Cheney headed the company from 1995 until he became vice president in 2000, and prosecutors say Halliburton and two other foreign companies funneled $180 million into the pockets of Nigerian officials to win a $6 billion contract. An arrest warrant through Interpol is supposedly coming.

"Now, before Cheney-bashers get too excited, it should be noted these allegations have been kicking around for some time," writes Al Kamen at the Washington Post. "In addition, we're heading into the Nigerian election season." And as for the odds of Cheney actually appearing in Nigeria to face those charges: "Zero."
